Products Advancing Sustainability
Sustainability Advantaged Products

Building a Better World encompasses our desire to help our customers and end users achieve their own sustainability goals. Our leading brands develop products and services designed to extend the useful life of assets for industrial and specialty markets and consumers focused on restoration and maintenance.

We work to develop more sustainable product formulations, reduce excess product packaging and offer products that have a direct environmental benefit, such as reducing waste, energy usage or emissions. Many RPM products also adhere to high industry standards and meet requirements for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), U.S. Green Building Council and EPA Safer Choice Program certifications, among others.

Renewable & Bio-Based Products

In our innovation processes, we work to find ways to incorporate renewable or bio-based materials that create a safer and more environmentally friendly products for our end-users while providing the same or improved performance compared to competing products. From using rice protein in cosmetic pigments to recycled ceramic waste in concrete, RPM is on the cutting edge of sustainable product innovation that contributes to Building a Better World.

For example, DayGlo’s Elara Luxe™ line of cosmetic pigments is made from all-natural rice protein that is biodegradable, non-GMO, vegan, kosher and halal certified. Elara Luxe, which features seven fluorescent pigments, was born out of the belief that clean beauty should never have to compromise vibrancy. This new bio-based solution is empowering formulators to offer the intense, rich palettes that customers crave in the clean beauty industry. Learn more.

Enabling Sustainable Buildings

Constructing energy-efficient buildings starts with the materials that make them. Our weatherization, insulation, roofing and other building products help our customers reduce their greenhouse (GHG) emissions, energy use and costs while extending the life of a building. Each year, we are breaking new ground in innovations for the construction industry and work to pioneer leading products for generations to come.

DAP Rethinks Foam Insulation for Energy Savings in a Single Container

As builders look to make their projects more energy efficient, DAP introduced its Wall & Cavity Foam, which effectively seals in air to insulate homes and buildings while enhancing indoor heat flow. The spray foam insulation provides Class A fire resistance and can help end users save 30% on energy costs. This innovative product is a pre-mixed one-component foam, so the user no longer needs to carry two containers on the job. It also utilizes DAP’s Wide Spray Applicator technology, which improves ergonomics, and a responsive flow control trigger to reduce waste. Over the last several years, DAP has also reformulated certain foam insulation products to incorporate a new, environmentally friendly liquid blowing agent to decrease GHG emissions compared to similar industry products. Carboline Solutions Extend Structural Longevity

Carboline’s coatings, linings and fireproofing add energy efficiency to operations through structural upkeep. Solutions range from Carboglas 1601 SG—which provides wind turbine blades long-term protection against harsh elements, leading to their longevity and longer replacement schedules—to Carboline’s Hydroplate water tank linings—which protect against corrosion in water pipes, valves and fittings, extending the asset’s service life and increasing the availability of potable water. Carboline’s longevity solutions also extend to its fireproofing products, which upgrade the fire rating of existing structures to extend the lifecycle of buildings.

In an analysis conducted on 1,000 autorack railcars, Carboline found that its Carboguard 904 epoxy for direct-to-metal use reduced VOCs compared with the leading water-based acrylic. In addition, Carboguard 904 only needs to be applied once, which reduces its VOC emissions by over 64,000 pounds per 1,000 cars compared with a water-based acrylic. This also results in a reduction in labor, material handling and waste as fewer workers, truckloads and consumables are needed.

Euclid Chemical Lowers Carbon Emissions in Construction

Through its concrete admixtures, Euclid Chemical is helping customers lower their carbon emissions by reducing the amount of cement content they need, while also delivering greater strength. EUCON Eco-Strength admixture facilitates cement hydration, which helps reduce the amount of cement used and improves both early- and late-stage strength development in concrete. The company is also using structural fibers in its concrete reinforcement products, such as TUF-STRAND SF. These macro-synthetic fibers replace energy-intensive materials, such as steel fibers, wire mesh and rebar, in various concrete applications. TUF-STRAND SF fibers also promote higher durability and safer working environments. Euclid Chemical also offers PSI FIBERSTRAND REPREVE 225, which reduces the risk of plastic shrinkage cracking in concrete and is manufactured from recycled plastic bottles.

Dryvit Makes Cost-Effective Solutions for Energy Efficiency

Dryvit's External Wall Insulation (EWI) is a cost-effective system for insulating the exterior of buildings. Bringing insulation to the outside of external walls keeps heat in a building and reduces air, wind and moisture penetration through walls and is customizable to enhance the building’s appearance. This leads to a more stable interior environment and lower energy costs. Its weatherproofing properties also reduce the long-term effects of dirt build up on a building’s facade, which lowers its maintenance and upkeep. Learn more.

Tremco’s Vegetated Roofs Add Beauty, Energy Savings to Structures

Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance offers a wide variety of “green roofs,” otherwise known as vegetated roofs, that feature greenery and plants installed on top of buildings. The Tremco team starts designing the flora-based roofs with the right waterproofing membrane. Then, the proper drainage, insulation and protective products are installed capped by a plant palette. Tremco’s vegetated roofs often double the life of a new roof membrane and help buildings regulate the temperature of air pulled into a rooftop HVAC unit, decreasing energy use and lowering utility cost. They also aid in sustainable stormwater management, increase a building’s air quality and provide an additional layer of insulation.
