New Malaysian Plant Incorporates Sustainability into Its Design

Across RPM, companies are making significant progress in sustainability area and Building a Better World. Leading the way in Southeast Asia is RPM Platform APAC, with its state-of-the-art plant in Serendah, Malaysia. This facility demonstrates how sustainable manufacturing and innovative design can go hand in hand.

A Commitment to Sustainable Manufacturing

Located in Serendah, Malaysia, the RPM Platform APAC plant is more than just a manufacturing facility—it’s a testament to sustainable design. Recently opened, this plant aligns with RPM’s mission of Building a Better World by embedding sustainability into its operations, all while meeting the increasing demands of its customers.

Here's a closer look at the green building materials and innovative features that reflect the plant’s commitment to eco-conscious industrial practices:

  1. Rainwater Harvesting System

Water conservation is critical in sustainable manufacturing, and the Serendah plant addresses this with an efficient rainwater harvesting system. This system reduces the facility's reliance on local water supplies and mitigates excess runoff, reflecting RPM’s dedication to resource conservation.

  1. Rooftop Garden

The plant’s rooftop garden is both a functional and aesthetic feature. Acting as an insulating layer, the vegetation helps regulate the facility’s internal temperature, reducing the energy required for cooling. This natural cooling mechanism enhances energy efficiency while creating a green, pleasant space for employees.

  1. LED Lighting for Energy Efficiency

LED lights use significantly less energy than traditional lighting and have a much longer lifespan, minimizing costs, increasing safety and reducing the facility’s carbon footprint.

  1. Recycled Glass Floors

By utilizing another RPM company’s Flowcrete’s Mondéco flooring system, the plant incorporates recycled glass into its floors. This approach not only reduces industrial waste but also showcases how green building materials can combine functionality with modern aesthetics.

  1. Electric Forklifts for Zero Emissions

Traditional gas-powered forklifts contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, but the Serendah plant has taken a cleaner route. It uses electric forklifts, which eliminate on-site emissions. This switch promotes cleaner air, a safer working environment and a significant reduction in the facility’s carbon footprint.

Paving the Way for Future Industrial Design

Facilities like the Serendah Plant demonstrate how green building materials and innovative practices can help RPM Build a Better World at our own plants, while we help customers do the same at their facilities.
